YOU CAN'T GIVE WHAT YOU DON'T HAVE: EMPOWERING EDUCATORS WITH EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE

(August 8th, 2024)

2024 EIR Kickoff Event organized by Charleston County School District

In August 2024, the Charleston County School District (CCSD) successfully hosted a virtual kickoff event for the Education Innovation and Research cohort, C3: Choice in Cultural Competency. Originally planned as an in-person event, the session was expertly transitioned online due to unforeseen weather conditions in South Carolina, yet still attracted over 100 dedicated participants.

This impactful event featured a keynote by Dr. Sonia Toledo, who delivered a profound discussion on the significance of Emotional Intelligence (EQ) in education. Dr. Toledo emphasized the critical role of EQā€”particularly self-awareness and self-managementā€”in fostering resilient, supportive, and effective educational environments.

Participants gained invaluable insights into enhancing their own emotional intelligence, thereby strengthening their well-being and mental wellness. The session explored powerful strategies for cultivating EQ to create nurturing spaces that promote connection and belonging for every student. Participants left equipped with the tools to build stronger partnerships and sustain a positive culture within their schools.

Despite the shift to a virtual format, the event remained an engaging and transformative experience, solidifying the importance of emotional intelligence in the educational community.
