Director's Lab:

Live version

This program is designed to equip Directors with a base to design and implement a concrete program that will result in a learning culture and consistent program enhancement. Participants who successfully complete the program will acquire 30 New York State OCFS School Age Child Care (SACC) credit hours.

Features and Benefits

1. Training Format

Delivered in four 3-hour in-person session, the training sessions offer directors a chance to explore new tools, concepts, and strategies. In between sessions, participants execute the methods and strategies learned.

2. Staff Performance Assessment Tool

Established by Dignity of Children, this Analysis tool assists in evaluating your staff member's knowledge of child care concepts and their ability to apply the knowledge in the classroom. The Director's Lab will also help you develop mini-trainings targeted to resolve these knowledge gaps.

Free Coaching Sessions

As a bonus, every participant will be entitled to two 30-minute coaching sessions.

3. 30 Credit Hours

30 hours of NYS OCFS SACC Credit hours will be awarded upon successful completion of the program. Training meets OCFS SACC 414.14 regulations in all 9 topic areas.

#1 - Start With the End in Mind

  • Purpose, visions, and aims
  • Understanding your workers
  • Learning skills we wish for our staff to know
  • Carrying out a staff performance evaluation

#2 - Mind the Gap

Here we use the Staff Performance Assessment Tool to:

  • Conduct After-School system quality analysis
  • Gather information
  • Create an improvement plan that actually works

#3 - Processes, Policies, & Systems

  • Adopt program standards with a clear vision
  • Program policies review
  • Systems and structures
  • Create standard operating processes

#4 - Creating a Learning Culture

  • Communicating tools, such as texts, memos, meetings, and Google Docs
  • Coaching techniques
  • Facilitation techniques for Group Leaders
